Herku - Poetic Portraits
Herku is a made up word. It is part "Haiku" and part "Her", the two words coming together in my head as I began to learn more about the portraits that were flying into my head and out through my hands.
These portraits represent the confluence of my long-standing poetic investigation of the world and my hand's desire to do more than tap the keyboard.
It has dawned on me that art is the soul expressing it's point of view, its opinion of the world as seen through the eyes, heard through the ears, felt through the skin, and tasted with the mouth. But it is also the world encountered via the spirit.
The titles represent a strictly emotional response to the finished work. Please feel free to name them as you like. They are very amenable beings, pleasant company.
These portraits are teaching me. I hope they at least entertain you somewhat. They are not my "babies" to be coddled and hidden away. They have their own life, no longer belonging to me alone.

Organic Veils
We touch the earth by touching each other. With words, songs, gestures, glances, fingertips, we find our way beneath the organic veil of flesh that was once rock and water and plant.
But this means taking away the translating electricity of cellphones, computers... and yes, the internet. Is there a way to balance the world of flesh and that of technology?
Leave your computer chair, walk out to the garden... and jam your hands into the earth there. Then, when your fingernails are dirty beyond repair, come back to your keyboard... and write your lover, best friend... anybody... and tell them to do the same thing.

Star Power
The famous American recording artist, Moby, sings that we are all made of stars. In every face there is a universe, of flowers, of song, of wind, of sun and moonlight, and the mystery of both comet and coral.
My fingers have learned a new form of love in creating these portraits, my eyes have learned a new way of seeing, and at times, it would seem even my heart has learned a new percussion.
To say I am grateful, is to miss the true feeling... by the distance of the stars.
